ENVIRONMENT

As a leading chemical company, environmental and safety considerations are integral to our operations

Companies today must grapple squarely with environmental issues in these times of heightened awareness of problems around the globe. At Kanto Denka, we think it makes good business sense too. We were quick off the mark to improve production processes, develop chemical reclamation and treatment systems, and introduce environmentally friendly products.

Responsible Care

In 1995, we were a founding member of the Japan Responsible Care (RC) Council, publishing the landmark Kanto Denka Kogyo Declaration on Environmental and Safety Issues. As part of our ongoing RC activities, we examine RC issues in three committees specializing in environmental and safety protection, quality control, logistic safety, and controlled chemicals management. We have an environmental audit process in place and are well into our second action plan for protecting the environment, ensuring the health of company members and promoting the safety and safe use of our products.

That same year most of the products of the Shibukawa Plant were certified to the ISO 9002 standard(international standard for a quality management system), and in 1988 most of the products of the Mizushima Plant followed suit. This certification was upgraded to the ISO 9001 standard in 2000, and in 1999 both plants and our research facilities were certified to the ISO 14001 standard(international standard for environmental management system). Further, as an occupational health and safety management system, Shibukawa Plant acquired OHSAS in 2005, and Mizushima Plant was certified to OSHMS in 2006 and transitioned to OHSAS in 2011. In 2020 both plants and our research facilities were certified to the ISO 45001 standard.
Each of these activities underlies our pledge to protect the environment, operate safely under all conditions, and ensure that our products are handled correctly throughout the product cycle.

Responsible Care
Responsible Care activities are voluntary environmental, safety and health measures by chemical companies worldwide that encompass the entire product cycle from development, through manufacturing, storage and consumption to final disposal.
They include a commitment to establish an ongoing dialog with a wide spectrum of society to communicate the goals and achievements of each company's RC program.
