Environment
Companies today must grapple squarely with environmental issues in these times of heightened awareness of problems around the globe. At Kanto Denka, we think it makes good business sense too. We were quick off the mark to improve production processes, develop chemical reclamation and treatment systems, and introduce environmentally friendly products.

Responsible Care
In 1995, we were a founding member of the Japan Responsible Care (RC) Council, publishing the landmark Kanto Denka Kogyo Declaration on Environmental and Safety Issues. As part of our ongoing RC activities, we examine RC issues in three committees specializing in environmental and safety protection, quality control, logistic safety, and controlled chemicals management. We have an environmental audit process in place and are well into our second action plan for protecting the environment, ensuring the health of company members and promoting the safety and safe use of our products.
The Shibukawa Plant was certified in 1995 to the ISO 9002 standard, the international standard for quality management systems. The Mizushima Plant followed suit in 1998. This certification has now been upgraded to the more comprehensive ISO 9001 standard in 2000 just after both plants and our research facilities were certified to the ISO 14001 standard for environmental management systems in 1999. Further, as an occupational health and safety management system, Shibukawa Plant acquired OHSAS in 2005, and Mizushima Plant was certified to OSHMS in 2006.
As for the products, we were awarded subsidy for supporting prevention of global warming in 2007 by NEDO<New Energy Development Organization>, an independent administrative institute.
We are now engaged in the development and supply of carbonyl fluoride(COF2), a cleaning gas with the global warming potential(GWP) value equivalent almost to 1. We now also market a system that we developed for decomposing and stabilizing unreacted perfluorocarbons (PFCs). Similarly, we developed a system for recycling PFCs.
Each of these activities underlies our pledge to protect the environment, operate safely under all conditions, and ensure that our products are handled correctly throughout the product cycle.
